New Year’s Course with Lama Ole Nydahl and Jigme Rinpoche

We’re happy to invite you to the New Year’s Course with Lama Jigme Rinpoche and Lama Ole Nydahl in Bratislava!

We are looking forward to seeing friends from all around the world and this way we can also support and celebrate together the starting of the great new Bratislava Diamond Way Buddhist Center (which is still under reconstruction at the moment). By this milestone, in December 2018 we also commemorate the 20th anniversary of the official beginning of Diamond Way Buddhism in Slovakia.

Let’s put it together!

Program

The program starts on Thursday, 27 December 2018 and ends on New Year’s Eve, Monday, 31 December 2018. It will consist of an empowerment on the 2nd Karmapa - Karma Pakshi and teachings about the Karma Kagyu lineage by Lama Jigme Rinpoche, lectures, questions & answers from Lama Ole Nydahl and explanations on the basics of Buddhism and meditation practices with traveling teachers.

We will enter the New Year together with the Bodhisattva Promise given by Lama Ole and the New Year’s party.

Lama Jigme Rinpoche was born in 1949 in Eastern Tibet into the family of H.H. the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa. He received extensive teachings and empowerments from the 16th Karmapa, who during his first visit in the West left him there as his European representative, saying: “In the person of Lama Jigme Rinpoche, I leave you my heart.” Today Jigme Rinpoche acts as the representative of Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, in Europe

Lama Ole Nydahl was born in 1941 in Copenhagen. During his stay in the Himalayas with his wife Hannah, they became the first Western students of the 16th Karmapa and received Buddhist teachings and empowerments from many important masters. Ole Nydahl is a fully qualified lama and meditation master of the Diamond Way Buddhism. His modern approach inspired a growing interest in Buddhism and meditation in the West.

There is no registration in advance. Just come and buy your ticket at the course location. You can pay by cash or credit card.

You will have the opportunity to support the new Bratislava Diamond Way Buddhist Center. 

Donations will be used for purchasing the land around the building and for helping us to pay off outstanding loans for the reconstruction.

Public Transport

General information

  • Tickets are available in different values of travel time. You will mostly need the basic 30' ticket for 0.90 € and 15' ticket for 0.70 € (if you don't want to juggle around with two types of tickets, just take the 30' tickets); and in case of traveling from the BTS Airport a 60' ticket for 1.20 €. Reduced fares: Kids under the age of 15 incl. have half price tickets available. Kids under 6 years travel for free.
  • Tickets must be purchased in advance of using any transportation vehicle. You can buy tickets in coin mashines at every bus stop (some new ticket mashines, "red", accept also bank notes) or in magazine stores and kiosks. Tickets cannot be purchased inside a vehicle, from the driver etc.
  • Tickets need to be marked when entering the first vehicle, in a marking mashine inside the vehicle. Non marked tickets are invalid. Once marked, you can transfer to any number of additional vehicles you may need during the ticket's period of time. Do not mark again an already marked ticket in a next vehicle, just keep it with yourself.
  • If you travel with baggage larger then 60x50x30 cm, you have to mark an additional 15' reduced fare ticket for 0.35 €. A baggage ticket is valid for 3 hours.
  • Some bus stops are marked as "Request stop" (in slovak "Na znamenie"). In order to get off on a request bus stop, you have to signal your request to the driver by pressing a door open button, located at or next to the doors. The other way around, to board a bus from a request bus stop, just wave at the driver.

Course Venue (Hant Arena): bus stop "Bajkalská"

  • From the Sleeping hall: go to "Technopol" - either 5' walk to bus stop "Šintavská" and then with buses no. 99 in direction "Petržalka, Ovsište" or no. 95 in direction "Petržalka, Muchovo námestie" exit at bus stop "Technopol", or walk 10' all the way to bus stop "Technopol" - and from "Technopol" continue with bus no. 98 in direction "Nové Mesto, OD Slimák" (check the bus direction) (one 30' ticket for all options).
  • From the Airport (BTS): direct bus connection no. 61 (one 30' ticket).
  • From the Train Station (Main Station, "Hlavná stanica"): direct bus connection no. 61 or no. 74; or with a transfer, trolleybus no. 201 exit "Trnavské mýto", then bus no. 61, 39 etc.; or walk 5' to bus stop "Nám. Franza Liszta" and from there no. 204 in direction "Trnávka, Rádiová" (one 15' ticket for all options).
  • From the Main Bus Station (Nivy): direct trolleybus connection no. 205 in direction "Trnávka, Rádiová"; or 4' walk to bus stop "Mlynské Nivy" and then take bus no. 78 in direction "ŽST Podunajské Biskupice" (one 15' ticket for all options).

Sleeping Hall (Tennis areal Slavia Pravnik): bus stop "Šintavská" and 5' walk

Important: Bus stop "Šintavská" is a request stop! Also, we direct you in general to the bus stop "Technopol", from where you can either walk 10' all the way to the sleeping hall or take a transfer to "Šintavská" and walk 5' from there.

  • From the Course Venue: bus no. 98 in direction "Petržalka, Jasovská", exit at "Technopol", then either walk 10' to the sleeping hall, or transfer to "Šintavská" by bus no. 95, 99 (if you walk from "Technopol", a 15' ticket, otherwise a 30' ticket).
  • From the Airport (BTS): bus no. 61 to "Bajkalská" (bus stop of the Course Venue), walk over to another "Bajkalská" bus stop to board bus no. 98 in direction "Petržalka, Jasovská", then exit at "Technopol", then either walk 10' to the sleeping hall, or transfer to "Šintavská" by bus no. 95, 99 (one 60' ticket for all options).
  • From the Train Station (Main Station, "Hlavná stanica"): take bus no. 93, exit either at "Smolenická" and then take bus no. 68 in direction "Vozovňa Petržalka" (this connection goes little bit more often) or within bus no. 93 exit at "Jirásková" (request stop) and then take bus no. 99 in direction "Petržalka, Antolská"; another option: walk 6' to bus stop "SAV" and take bus no. 83 in direction "Petržalka, Technopol", exit at bus stop "Technopol" and either walk 10' to the sleeping hall, or transfer to "Šintavská" by bus no. 95, 99 (one 30' ticket for all options).
  • From the Main Bus Station (Nivy): take bus no. 88 in direction "Most SNP cez Petržalku", exit at "Ekonomická univerzita" and then take bus no. 98 in direction "Petržalka, Jasovská", exit at "Technopol" and either walk 10' to the sleeping hall, or transfer to "Šintavská" by bus no. 95, 99 (one 30' ticket for all options).

Parking
